KEYNOTE - "THE NEWVOICE OF THE CIO-INSIGHTS FROM THE GLOBAL CIO STUDY"
Presented by: Johnny Barnes,
GM Technology & CTO, IBM
Discussion: The voice of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is being heard in new ways -- as CIO's are increasingly recognized as full-fledged members of the senior executive team. Successful CIO's are much more actively engaged in setting strategy, enabling flexibility and change, and solving business problems, not just IT problems. You may be asking yourself, how can I as the CIO, make the biggest impact on behalf of the entire organization? To answer that question, IBM listened to over 2,500 CIO's worldwide. Ed will share with you the results of these face-to-face conversations, along with IBM's statistical and financial analyses which clearly define the changing demands on CIO's worldwide!

  Barney Krucoff
“GIS AND LOCATION BASED ANALYTICS”
Moderated by: Michael Eckert,
VP, FortiusOne and SIM Board member
Panelists: Thomas Conry, GIS Manager, Fairfax County
Barney Krucoff, Geospatial Technology Manager, District of Columbia
Discussion: Traditional Business Intelligence has looked at the 'who', 'what', and 'why' around data, but has ignored the 'where'. Location is a core analytical dimension. Within this data lies a vast pool of intelligence that largely remains untapped for organizations. Business Intelligence (BI) tools, such as dashboards, reporting and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) allow decision-makers to analyze data and information in order to make better decisions. Summarized data from operational systems are presented to users in interactive charts, graphs and reports. Most experts agree that about 80% of data has a spatial component that could be used to enhance the BI user experience with map displays and spatial analysis tools. However, according to Ventana Research, 61 per cent of organizations found that using location data helps to improve customer services, yet only 28 per cent of organizations are truly innovative in their business when it comes to the context of location. In this track we will learn how GIS and Location Based Analytics are making their way out of specialized departments and moving into the enterprise mainstream.
Session 2

Moderated by: Lee Erickson,
PhD Candidate, The Pennsylvania State University, College of Information Sciences & Technology

And how do they ensure success? This panel examines the latest trends and best practices for social media and the enterprise. Discussion will include how organizations are currently using social media, both inside and outside the organization. Panelist will discuss their experiences with using social media to tap into the marketplace, generate awareness, improve customer service, and keep an eye on competitors. Learn how organizations are assessing the benefits and risks, as well as what policies they are creating around social media use.
