OPENING KEYNOTE - "THE NEW VOICE OF THE CIO-INSIGHTS FROM THE GLOBAL CIO STUDY"
Presented by: Louis P Sousa, M ENG, P. Eng, Executive Consultant, and the IT Strategy and Effectiveness Lead, IBM Global Business Services
Discussion: The CIO is no longer looked on as the person who "Keeps IT Lights On" but is now recognized for extracting value from technology and insight from complex systems. In fact, the alignment between the areas of most importance - Insight and intelligence; Client intimacy; and people skills - for CEOs and CIOs has never been closer - pointing to the importance of technology as a driver of business growth and a reshaping of the CIO as a true business partner - not just an IT implementer.
While the CIOs and CEO are starting to line up their areas of highest importance, "one size does not fit all". The study has found some clear separation in what CIO need to do to be successful in their organization that are aligned with 4 uniquely different Mandates to support their respective businesses.
This presentation will examine in depth the findings of IBM's recent study of Chief Information Officers, which is the product of more than 3,000 face-to-face interviews with CIOs from diverse organizations in 71 countries and 18 industries and highlight commonalities and variances between the Canadian and global experience. It will also outline why "one size does not fit all" when it comes to CIOs and their IT Organization Mandates.

"INNOVATIVE THINKING"
Moderated by: Brenda Rideout, CIO, ING Direct Canada
Panelists: Claude Legrand, Managing Partner, Ideaction, Inc.
Angus Muir, AVP Application Delivery IS, The Dominion
Discussion: What if there was more, much more, to innovation than just new technologies? What if the IT department could be the power behind organization-wide innovation?
For IT, innovation will always include R&D but today it’s also about being the enabler of every new innovation initiative in an organization. The challenge is: as IT leaders, have we been trained to think innovatively? Do we know how to help our teams be more innovative?
As knowledge and service become increasingly important to our economy, organizations will look more and more to IT to enable innovation everywhere: from products to services, and from customer relationships to marketing. Innovation will be not just what we do but how we do it. So how do we get ready?

"DEMYSTIFYING BI, REPORTING AND ANALYTICS FOR MID-SIZE ORGANIZATIONS"
Moderated by: Jamal Shah, Former Managing Director, Broadview, Inc.
Discussion: Stories about successful use of Business Intelligence and Analytics for developing insights and creating business value tend to be based on experiences of very large organizations with deep pockets for making investments in large data warehouses, BI, and data analytics capabilities. These types of investments are often out of reach for many organizations and SMBs, who are also looking to leverage BI capabilities, but are wary, and perceive them as large, complex and open-ended investments.

The presentation will explore how BI and data analytics can add insights and create value in mid-size organizations and how such capabilities are equally accessible and implementable by these organizations “without breaking the bank”.

The presentation will explore:
  • What SMB’s can learn from the experiences of largest organizations and how they can adapt that experience for their unique circumstances.
  • How to assess your readiness for implementing BI and analytics.
  • Key opportunities, challenges and risks for SMBs.
  • How to successfully and economically implement BI in mid-sized organizations.

"HOW SUCCESSFUL CLOUD, MOBILE AND OTHER APPLICATION STRATEGIES ARE DRIVEN BY THE END-USER EXPERIENCE"
Presented by: David Jones, End-User Experience Strategist, Gomez APM, Compuware Corporation
Discussion: Business and technology landscapes are evolving due to globalization, cloud computing, mobility, application delivery “ecosystems”, and other new developments. These trends are increasing the need for organizations to utilize a framework that maximizes their awareness of performance and optimization. This approach assists in shaping cloud, mobile and other application strategies within the organization. With the number of smartphones currently being used, it is no surprise that research indicates mobile devices will soon outnumber personal computers on the Internet. This movement brings with it end users who demand that their mobile experience equals – or, frankly, exceeds – that of traditional web applications. That means each business needs to develop a mobile and cloud strategy that will meet these demanding, dynamic and critical customer expectations. The goal must be to provide an exceptional experience for every user, every time. We will detail how a well-defined cloud and mobile strategy can positively impact your end-user experience, and in turn, your business success today and into the future.

"IMPLEMENTATION OF A DATA GOVERNANCE STRATEGY: A DEEPER DIVE!"
Presented by: David Corrigan, Director, Product Marketing, IBM InfoSphere
Discussion: The volume and variety of digital information is exploding as our Planet becomes more instrumented, interconnected and intelligent. Current economic times require corporations and governments to analyze new information faster and make timely decisions for achieving business goals within budget. Look around you and think about all the new types of information your organization is collecting that it previously did not capture 10, 5 or even a single year ago. How do you manage and protect this information today? Is your organization able to harness this data to drive smarter business outcomes and ensure your company is prepared for the future? In this session we will discuss best practices to master the complete lifecycle of information, establish sustainable management of information quality and security and enable IT to make information more accessible and meaningful to the business. Learn how an effective governance strategy can enable IT and business to collaborate more effectively by ensuring information is aligned to business goals. Understand how your organization can take a holistic approach to improve operational efficiency by reducing risk and wasted time and cost associated with finding, understanding and managing information.
