OPENING KEYNOTE - "THE ESSENTIAL CIO"
Presented by: Michael Martine, Director, Supply Chain Transformation, Enterprise On Demand Transformation/CIO Office team, IBM
Panelists: Bob Dill, Distinguished Engineer & CTO, Cross Sector Solutions Global Executive, Client Technical Advisors, IBM
Discussion:The CIO is no longer looked upon as the person who "Keeps IT Lights On" but is now recognized for the essential role they play in delivering business value through leveraging information technology and insight to help their organizations achieve their strategic business objectives. The alignment of CEOs and CIOs across the areas insight and intelligence, client intimacy, and people skills has never been closer. Technology has become ubiquitous and data is expanding exponentially. In turn, the role of the CIO is becoming more important as a driver of business growth.
While the CIOs and CEO are starting to line up their areas of highest importance, "one size does not fit all". The study has found some clear differences in the approach to IT leadership based upon the organization's business needs and goals. Our study identified four distinct "CIO Mandates" based on how each organization views the role of IT: Leverage, Expand, Transform, and Pioneer. Each mandate has a clear focus and requires different sets of core competencies.
This presentation will examine in depth the findings of IBM's most recent study of Chief Information Officers - The Essential CIO. This is the largest study of CIOs ever undertaken. It is based on over 3,000 face-to-face interviews with CIOs from diverse organizations in 71 countries, across 18 industries, and differing size. Today's CIOs are uniquely positioned to help their organizations address the complexity of the 21st century and are more essential than ever to deliver business insight and serve as catalysts for innovation. |

“HOW THE CONSUMERIZATION OF IT IMPACTS CIOS"
Moderated by: David Lando, Sr. Solutions Architect & Consultant, Consonus Technologies
Panelists: David Roseberry, VP & CIO, RTI International
Chuck Musciano, VP & CIO, Martin Marietta Materials
Miles Romello, Sr. Director of Information Systems, Targacept
Discussion: In the last 24 months, the corporate IT world has seen an explosion of new devices, Web applications, and social media platforms entering the workplace environment. With every new product release or social network launch, CIOs are getting pressure from their employees to integrate consumer devices into the IT infrastructure. The migration of consumer devices like smartphones and tablets into enterprise computing is making CIOs very nervous - and rightfully so.
The risks to data security are obvious and real, and the loss of control is distressing. However, the consumerization of IT is inevitable. The rise of social media as a business application, the blurring of work and home, and the emergence of new mobile devices, are changing employee expectations of corporate IT. But how do you manage the impact to security, network performance and staff productivity?
In this panel discussion, we will facilitate an interactive dialogue that highlights real examples of the impact to IT organizations and infrastructures due to the proliferation of consumer devices within the workforce. We will also discuss how executives are dealing with this inevitable trend by developing effective strategies, policies and technology solutions to minimize the risk associated with the consumerization of IT. |

Being cloud ready is really a measure of the organizational maturity of IT in a given organization. Is my datacenter optimized? I need to be service aligned, I need to understand the consumption model of the services I provide, I need to ensure that the right security measures are in place for each service, I need to understand the cost of each service.
CDW walks through a process to move you in the direction of becoming cloud ready. |

Discussion: A number of organizations have a significant portion of their IT resources distributed throughout the organization, in addition to a central IT presence. Invariably, there is overlap and some degree of competition/conflict in these arrangements. However, in the interest of reducing costs in these difficult economic times, organizations are looking at consolidating IT services to get more from the existing IT spend. The politics of this can be challenging and fly in the face of the organizational culture, which can be a barrier to success. What strategies are out there to mitigate this problem?

How do you manage and protect this information today? Is your organization able to harness this data to drive smarter business outcomes and ensure your company is prepared for the future? In this session we will discuss best practices to master the complete lifecycle of information, establish sustainable management of information quality and security, and enable it to make information more accessible and meaningful to the business. Learn how an effective governance strategy can enable it and business to collaborate more effectively by ensuring information is aligned to business goals.
