OPENING KEYNOTE - "THE NEW VOICE OF THE CIO-INSIGHTS FROM THE GLOBAL CIO STUDY"
Presented by: Bruce Greiner, VP & Portfolio Exec. for Enterprise Services, Office of CIO, IBM USA
Discussion:The CIO is no longer looked upon as the person who "Keeps IT Lights On" but is now recognized for the essential role they play in delivering business value through leveraging information technology and insight to help their organizations achieve their strategic business objectives. The alignment of CEOs and CIOs across the areas insight and intelligence, client intimacy, and people skills has never been closer. Technology has become ubiquitous and data is expanding exponentially. In turn, the role of the CIO is becoming more important as a driver of business growth.
While the CIOs and CEO are starting to line up their areas of highest importance, "one size does not fit all". The study has found some clear differences in the approach to IT leadership based upon the organization's business needs and goals. Our study identified four distinct "CIO Mandates" based on how each organization views the role of IT: Leverage, Expand, Transform, and Pioneer. Each mandate has a clear focus and requires different sets of core competencies.
This presentation will examine in depth the findings of IBM's most recent study of Chief Information Officers - The Essential CIO. This is the largest study of CIOs ever undertaken. It is based on over 3,000 face-to-face interviews with CIOs from diverse organizations in 71 countries, across 18 industries, and differing size. Today's CIOs are uniquely positioned to help their organizations address the complexity of the 21st century and are more essential than ever to deliver business insight and serve as catalysts for innovation. |

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "THE USER AND THE DESKTOP: A JOURNEY IN TIME"
Presented by: Michael Mills, VP Technology, AppSense partnering with Structured
Discussion: As many IT departments are considering the changes in the desktop and how that will affect their organizations we must understand the past and present before we make plans for the future. With the prevalence of desktop virtualization technologies and the challenges they present we are fortunate to apply many of the skills that we learned back in the Terminal Services (RDS) days and avoid many of the pitfalls. Michael Mills will discuss how leveraging the skills we have already mastered while considering the future of the user, IT can overcome the challenges that loom ahead. The user is both a catalyst and enabler of the new desktop. Though many incorrectly think of the user as purely incidental to the technology, Michael will demonstrate that is clearly not the case.
