You may be asking yourself, how can I as the CIO, make the biggest impact on behalf of the entire organization? To answer that question, IBM listened to over 2,500 CIOs worldwide. Ed will share with you the results of these face-to-face conversations, along with IBM's statistical and financial analyses which clearly defines the changing demands on CIOs worldwide! |

“CYBER SECURITY"
Moderated by: Brian Herrick, Special Agent, FBI Cyber Crime Discussion: The online user population is estimated to grow to 1.8 billion by the end of 2010. As with a population increase in any geographic area, with growth comes crime. The Internet is no exception. The challenge of proactive policing on the Internet is a significant one due to the rapid growth of the global economy and our reliance upon technology to do business in real-time. IT leadership can better protect themselves by knowing the cybercrime trends which law enforcement see developing, and how the FBI is positioned to respond to today's threat. This discussion will address the top technology threats ranging from Internet based frauds and identity theft to network intrusions leading to the theft of intellectual property. |

Are you covered under the “corporate veil”? Do you need to counter-sue; corporation, its officers, plaintiff? How can you afford to defend yourself? In today’s litigious society what is a CIO to do? What are the possibilities, where are the minefields, how can you protect yourself? |

"CIO 2015: MECHANIC, ARCHITECT OR CONDUCTOR"
Presented by: Peter Whatnell, CIO, Sunoco, Inc. Discussion: The economic meltdown of the last 24 months has forced many companies to reassess what they expect from IT and its leadership. The IT leader of the future needs to shift from being an inwardly focused functional manager to a more outwardly focused opportunity seeker who is able to identify where the business can benefit from the application of technology. No longer is the source of that technology solution solely an in-house IT department but is increasingly a federation of internal and external partners where the CIO is the Conductor ensuring that all the various parts work together harmoniously.Back to Top |

In this presentation, Madeline Weiss will share the highlights of what APC members have learned and Jim Knight will share his innovation success. Topics to be covered include: Creating a culture of innovation, Leveraging networks to identify innovative solutions, Managing costs and risks, Executing to capture value. |

"A SMARTER APPROACH TO ARCHIVING” Moderated by: Linda Clark, ECM Amaericas, Governance, Risk & Compliance, IBM
Panelist: Cynthia Babb, Product Management, Applications, IBM Discussion: We continue in the midst of an Information Explosion. The amount of information captured is growing rapidly as evidenced by IDC estimates that 45GBs of data currently exists for each person on the planet with a staggering growth rate of 60% annually. Not only do we capture this information, but we are mandated to retain it and must be able to easily search and decipher the information all while reducing costs, not hindering the performance of existing applications and protecting the privacy of the information at the same time. This tremendous growth is forcing organizations to take a smart approach to managing the information across the organization, with flexible archival deployment options - on premise, appliance, cloud or hybrid. It starts with classification and archiving the information, making it accessible. In this session, you will learn strategies for managing the information explosion including archiving, storage and best practices which can be part of a greater information governance process. Some of the topics will include:
- How do I manage information over its lifespan and how do I make archive management and infrastructure choices?
- How do I manage information over its lifespan and how do I make archive management and infrastructure choices?
- How do I deliver Information Governance in a consistent, defensible and cost effective manner?

“PULSE: THE INTERNET AS THE ULTIMATE MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT FOR BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT" Presented by: Doug Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research Discussion: In this session, Doug Hubbard, author of How to Measure Anything and The Failure of Risk Management will present his latest research into a new way to use the internet. As more people use Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, ebay and Amazon, it is become more feasible to use the “tracks” they leave behind as an important source of business intelligence. Reports on the frequency of particular searches on Google can be used to determine if unemployment is decreasing or even to determine where flu outbreaks occur first. Ranks of books on Amazon can be analyzed to determine whether housing is recovering or if more people are going into their own business. New methods for searching blogs and twitter can give you the “buzz” on your company. The internet has become the most powerful socio-economic measurement tool in history – and is yet vastly underutilized for this purpose. Find out what’s next for this new way of analyzing trends in business, government, and popular culture. |

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "WHERE IT’S GOING & WHO’S GOING THERE"
Moderated by: Tom Egan, CIO Immaculata University Panelists: Stephen Andriole, Thomas G. Labrecque Professor, Dept. of Decision & IT, Villanova University John Carrow, Founder, Carrow Consulting; Former CIO Unisys Corp.; CIO, City of Philadelphia Peter Whatnell, CIO, Sunoco Inc. Ed Sammis, VP, Business Integration, Office of the CIO, IBM Initiatives Discussion: It cannot be said any clearer: we have significantly underestimated the impact that the Web is having — and will continue to have — on our personal and professional lives. Within five years, the Web will become the dominant personal and professional platform for communication, collaboration, entertainment, learning, and all forms of business transaction processing. Within 10 years, the personal/professional merger will be complete with virtually no distinction between what we do to live and what we do to work. Significant aspects of our personal and professional lives will move to the Web, be managed by Web-based providers, and support an agility and mobility that we’re unable to define or appreciate today. Jobs will be found around technology that supports consumers, especially consumer-oriented applications around wireless communications, energy related technology, smart grids, critical infrastructure rebuilding, medical records automation, green computing, mobility, and the security related to all of these. hat technology will we use in 2015? Will we fully utilize Web 3.0, social media, BI 2.0, virtualization, SOA/EDA, thin clients, smart auto-agents? How will we re-organize IT? Will we centralize, decentralize, globalize? How will we buy IT? Will we rent everything or build even bigger data bunkers? Will we embrace open source software? How will we measure IT? What skills will we need? Will we need more vendor managers, architects, business relationship managers, business process modelers and project/program/portfolio managers? How will we develop the talent we need? One this is for sure: IT’s all going to change. |
