KEYNOTE – "IMPROVING DATA MANAGEMENT IN TODAY'S ECONOMY"
Presented by: Al Smith, Dir. Optim Engineering, IBM Software Group
Discussion: In the current economy, strategies that can increase efficiency and help to reduce costs are becoming strategic imperatives. Organizations world wide are realizing the importance of improving data management to achieve business results.
From this realization, the integrated data management philosophy has been developed by leading organizations to enable them to continue to be successful, even in challenging times such as these. Integrated Data Management (IDM) offers an approach for managing enterprise data from requirements to retirement. This enables organizations and their IT staff to build upon a foundation of shared information, enabling teams to collaborate more effectively to manage data and databases, and optimize the data-driven applications that support business initiatives.
The vision for Integrated Data Management is to deliver more than tools and techniques. By adopting a strategic approach, leading organizations have leveraged capabilities that scale across enterprise applications, databases, operating systems and hardware platforms to improve overall performance, reduce costs and mitigate risk. In this session, Al Smith will explore this vision and discuss how organizations worldwide are employing employed integrated data management strategies. |

"BUSINESS & IT CURRICULA: ARE WE PROPERLY PREPARING GRADUATES FOR CAREERS? WHAT 'CONTENT' MEETS THE NEEDS OF INDUSTRY"
Moderated by: Stephen Fugale, CIO, Villanova University
Panelists: James Danko, Dean School of Business, Villanova University
Dr. Margaret M. McManus, Associate Dean, School of Arts & Sciences, La Salle University
Sandra Brandon, CIO, Crayola LLC
Larry Reilley, SVP & CIO, Retail Annuities IT, ING
Discussion: It is a difficult task aligning corporate hiring demands (required skills, competencies and background) demands with supply (university graduates). Often universities act like the institutions they are and are unable to be sufficiently agile to respond to corporate needs. Often corporate needs are short-sighted, often focused on a single fiscal year, while universities produce employees capable of learning and adopting, not in supplying short term staffing needs. What are the evolving needs? How do universities establish curriculum? What are we looking for from graduates? Areas of focus? Please join and contribute to this lively discussion and also learn how some local universities are meeting today's corporate needs.

Session 2 Independence S.
 David Merrill |
"APPLYING ECONOMIC METRICS IN CONSIDERING STORAGE TCO"
Moderated by: David Merrill, Chief Economist, Hitachi Data Systems, Inc.
Panelists: Tom Whelans, VP Operations, Berkley Technology Services; Corporate IT, W.R. Berkley Corp. Paul McQuilken, Sr. Manager Midrange Storage & Mainframe Services, CSC
Business Problem: The struggle to manage an ever-growing storage environment while containing cost.
IT Solution: Moving from $/MB to a Total Cost of Ownership Model Many IT planners make the mistake of assuming that purchasing low-cost disk solutions will drive down the total cost of ownership (TCO) for storage, but price alone does not equate to reducing the total cost of disk ownership. Purchasing only cheaper disk solutions to reduce short-term capital expense (CAPEX) can often produce a negative long-term impact on operating expense (OPEX), particularly when you consider that the purchase price of disk hardware represents only 20 to 25 percent of the TCO (TCO-per-TB/unit per Year) for the storage infrastructure. As the price of disk continues to decline (approaching zero); other methods besides lowering CAPEX must be explored to impact multiyear costs of storage ownership. This session will examine the application of economic principals and cost metrics as a management process for continuous improvements in the data center.

What if your business processes are no longer restricted to what you do inside your company but can gracefully include and integrate those of your suppliers, clients and other business partners? What if your IT capabilities are no longer limited to the hardware and software located in your data centers but can be procured dynamically? What if your capacity to innovate is no longer restricted to your R&D organizations but can be augmented by a range of others – any and all of your employees, researchers from universities, your customers and even the public at large? What if your business capabilities are in essence elastic, able to weather any global economic volatility and can catapult you to new levels of high business performance? KEYNOTE – "CHANGING THE CULTURE – THE TOUGHEST TASK IN IT"
Presented by: Jack Wilson, Enterprise Architect, Asst. VP, Amerisure Mutual Insurance Company
Discussion: Any organization has to be dynamic in order to survive, let alone excel. You simply can’t be stagnant, but there are a lot of forces within your organization struggling hard to maintain the status quo. It is one of the areas in the organization that by its very nature has to evolve forcing change within the organization. In the best cases IT can become a revolutionary force to drive an organization to examine what they do, why they do it and is it effective. It’s not easy, but it is what separates progressive IT leadership from stagnant IT management. |

"CIO CAREER DEVELOPMENT, NEXT STEPS, AND HOW TO GET THERE"
Moderated by: Suzanne Fairlie, President, ProSearch, Inc.
Panelists: Robert Blumenthal, Senior Client Partner, Korn Ferry
William Morgan, SVP Global Human Resources, NASDAQ Alan Guibord, CEO & Chairman, The Advisory Council (TAC)
Discussion: In today's world of constant change, the CIO role is gaining more impact on business operations. IT is becoming more tied to business success. IT leaders are getting a bigger seat at the table, and often more global responsibilities. In less than 50 years, the role of "Head of IT" has grown from someone who develops manufacturing, payroll and accounting technology, to that of a business leader who is responsible for technology. The expectation is to be able to provide leadership on all aspects of a company's business and board room decisions.
How does a CIO in a smaller company move up to a larger corporation and how does a CIO in a larger corporation move up to a more encompassing role? What skills and traits are critical to prepare for this new role and what steps should you take right now?
Hear from our experts, who include nationally known CIO search consultants, a nationally known coach to CIO's, and a prominent CIO who has moved up to an SVP role in a global corporation. Ask the questions you think about but have no one to answer. Walk away with an action list that will help you in your career journey, today and ongoing.

Discussion: Some CIOs, CTOs, and CFOs look at Web 2.0 technologies as opportunities to increase, collaboration, extend customer service and widen content management; they see tools like crowd sourcing as way to revolutionize the problem-solving process. But others see Web 2.0 as just another industry-created fad, designed to bilk unsuspecting customers out of their hard-earned cash. Even darker perspectives see Web 2.0 technologies as major threats to control, standardization, application development and governance. What’s the right balance? How should we exploit the power of Web 2.0 technologies? What – if anything – should we fear? The panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities from all perspectives.
