“PROTECTING THE MOBILE WORKFORCE”
Moderated by: Frank Flanagan, Dir. IT Infrastructure, Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts
Panelists: Jerry Murtland, Information Security Risk Manager, Grange Mutual Casualty Company
Christopher Luse, Information Security Manager, Swagelok
Aaron Schaub, Information Security Manager, State Auto
Discussion: Businesses rely on mobility these days. Associates need the ability to get in a car or on a plane and go from place to place to maximize their operational capacity. But what of their protection? The majority of business systems that are malware and crimeware infected come from systems outside of a business’s protection perimeter. Reason being? These systems are not visible and their access to online threats maximize the potential of their system becoming compromised. Organizations spend hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to invest in security controls such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus centralized monitoring and management, Internet proxies, and security event managers and they are all exempt from protecting a mobile workforce. Threats vary from irritating system debilitations to data theft, keyloggers, and password stealing Trojans leading to unauthorized access to business systems. The impact of unauthorized access is only definable by the scope of the exploit, but one thing is certain, companies are not maximizing their ROI by maintaining visibility of this important work population.
This panel will discuss what practitioners are doing to maximize their security investment ROI by gaining the necessary visibility and protection coverage on the mobile work force. We will discuss industry technologies, business processes, policies, and standards, and the impacts that these technologies and processes have on operational efficiency.

“A SMARTER APPROACH TO ARCHIVING”
Presented by: Steve Johnston, Team Lead North America, IBM Optim
Brendan Reid, eDiscovery & Records Management Solution Leader, IBM
Discussion: We continue in the midst of an Information Explosion. The amount of information captured is growing rapidly as evidenced by IDC estimates that 45GBs of data currently exists for each person on the planet with a staggering growth rate of 60% annually. Not only do we capture this information, but we are mandated to retain it and must be able to easily search and decipher the information all while reducing costs, not hindering the performance of existing applications and protecting the privacy of the information at the same time. This tremendous growth is forcing organizations to take a smart approach to managing the information across the organization, with flexible archival deployment options - on premise, appliance, cloud or hybrid. It starts with classification and archiving the information, making it accessible. In this session, you will learn strategies for managing the information explosion including archiving, storage and best practices which can be part of a greater information governance process. Some of the topics will include:
- How do I even identify what information should be archived?
- How do I manage information over its lifespan and how do I make archive management and infrastructure choices?
- How do I deliver Information Governance in a consistent, defensible and cost effective manner?

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "PULSE: THE INTERNET AS THE ULTIMATE MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT FOR BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT"
Presented by: Douglas W. Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research
Discussion: In this session, Doug Hubbard, author of How to Measure Anything and The Failure of Risk Management will present his latest research into a new way to use the internet. As more people use Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, ebay and Amazon, it is become more feasible to use the “tracks” they leave behind as an important source of business intelligence. Reports on the frequency of particular searches on Google can be used to determine if unemployment is decreasing or even to determine where flu outbreaks occur first. Ranks of books on Amazon can be analyzed to determine whether housing is recovering or if more people are going into their own business. New methods for searching blogs and twitter can give you the “buzz” on your company. The internet has become the most powerful socio-economic measurement tool in history – and is yet vastly underutilized for this purpose. Find out what’s next for this new way of analyzing trends in business, government, and popular culture.
