"PARADIGM SHIFTS AND TECHNOLOGY'S INFLUENCE"
Presented by: Sharon DeWitt, AIT Director, Scot Forge
Tom Coleman, CIO, Sloan Valve Company
Discussion: When was the last time you asked why you would ever need a PC at home? Every decade we see massive changes in the IT industry. In the 80s we saw desktop computing flourish, and progressed to a client server model in the 90s. Mobile computing grew quickly in 2000 and beyond. 2010 presents a variety of technologies that may deliver IT efficiencies on a grand scale. But how can IT take advantage of these game changers? How can this fast paced change be a catalyst for a paradigm shift and transform the organization? In this session, you will learn from two senior IT executives as to how they have been transforming their organizations in the wake of this transformation. Topics that will be covered include:
- What is a paradigm shift
- How to anticipate and recognize a potential paradigm shift
- How you need to change your approach and way of thinking
- How to take advantage of disruptive/innovative technologies as a catalyst for a paradigm shift
- How you strategically differentiate yourself and your organization through this transformation

 Pete Dupre |
"THE FUTURE OF SOFTWARE PROJECTS – HOW QUALITY ASSURANCE AND DEVELOPMENT MUST CHANGE"
Presented by: Pete Dupre', Chief Solutions Architect, Micro Focus
Discussion: I recently heard the CEO of a financial institution state “We are a software company, masquerading as a bank.” Business is built on software. Today, if we aren’t building precisely what the users need, we’re on the road to irrelevance. As technologists, we have to start hitting the mark every time for our users, and stop settling for mediocrity. Quality and Development Professionals are under ever-increasing pressure to perform better and deliver faster. In the face of rapid technology changes, vastly more complex systems, globalization, and new regulatory burdens, changes in the way we test and develop software are critical. In spite of all the methodologies and tools that have been thrown at the problem, the statistics tell a dismal story: Only 32% of software projects are considered successful, 40% of a development team’s time is wasted on unproductive rework, 70% of defects in production are introduced in the requirements stage, consider; 32% software project success? Inexcusable - we have to fix this, trends such as Agile are gaining popularity, but are they delivering business value? Analysts encourage organizations to drive quality from the start of the software development lifecycle to streamline and reduce cost. This sounds logical, but is it really achievable? Also, we have been talking about getting better at requirements for 25 years – what’s new now? Join us as we discuss:- Current state of software project success - industry trends
- What's wrong with the traditional QA approach?
- Latest innovation and concepts in modernized "Continuous Quality Assurance"

Each stage of the journey requires a shift in the leader's overall focus and development of staff expertise and stakeholder relationships.
Once leaders reach the top stage, they have the capabilities to deliver accumulated, comprehensive business value and the versatility to emphasize any leadership approach the company made need at a given period.
Our panel of CXOs will share their experiences and beliefs and how they relate to the Council's vision of the long-term future of the IT profession

This presentation details the unique risks associated with data and the specific steps you must take to ensure its security. Receive step by step instructions around building a security program that will monitor, control, and ultimately protect your data, in all its forms, throughout its life cycle.

CLOSING KEYNOTE - "PULSE: THE NEW SCIENCE OF HARNESSING INTERNET BUZZ TO TRACK THREATS AND OPPORTUNITIES, TO BE RELEASED IN APRIL, 2011" Presented by: Doug Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research
Discussion: The Internet contains the largest repository of human knowledge, interests, and activities ever constructed. Yet this powerful tool is still vastly underutilized. Written by Douglas Hubbard, Pulse shows you how to harness the explosive potential of the Internet and mobile devices to measure data and trends economically and in real time—vital information that traditionally cost millions of dollars and lagged events by weeks and months. Pulse uses real-world examples to illustrate how:
- A Canadian epidemiologist tracking “flu symptoms” searches on Google and is able to track flu outbreaks faster than Canadian health authorities. His success inspired Google’s “Flu Trends” tool.
- Tracking Twitter comments about upcoming movies could reliably predict box office success better than any other method.
- The number of “unemployment” Google searches nationwide tracks very closely to Bureau of Labor Statistics unemployment reports, which releases its data monthly after sampling 60,000 households while Google trends data is available weekly—and for free.
- Tracking Twitter comments produces nearly the same results for consumer confidence and political polls as Gallup polls—except that Twitter results are real time and free.
By tapping into the digital footprints of two billion Internet users, you can mine real-time data to fundamentally change how you make some of the most important decisions you face in business and government. Access real-time raw data and calibrate it against traditional methods to greatly improve your organization’s trend forecasting, productivity, and bottom line. Learn how to track trends, threats, and opportunities.
