You simply can’t be stagnant, but there are a lot of forces within your organization struggling hard to maintain the status quo. It is one of the areas in the organization that by it's very nature has to evolve forcing change within the organization. In the best cases IT can become a revolutionary force to drive an organization to examine what they do, why they do it and is it effective. It’s not easy, but it is what separates progressive IT leadership from stagnant IT management. |

How has the experience of gaining a personal leadership perspective translated into the way you execute your corporate role today? What is it about the process of “getting there” that surprised you the most? What would your peers and subordinates say is different about your leadership practices today? How do you view the difference between leadership and management? Why should organizations spend the money to develop leadership capabilities today? How does a "personal leadership style" integrate the concepts of a moral compass?

"DEALING WITH IT EMPLOYEE LAYOFFS"
Moderated by: Prof. C. Ranganathan, University of Illinois at Chicago
Panelists: Poornima Narain, IT Manager, United Airlines
Mike Glynn, Board Member, SIM Chicago Chapter
Kevin Hudson, Former Dir. IT Finance, ServiceMaster
Discussion: Hardly a day passes without media reports about IT workers being laid off. IT sector is caught in the downsizing conundrum once again – similar to the one during the dot-com bubble crash in 2001. IT employment in both corporate IT and IT vendors declined by over 100,000 jobs in the past three months and the number continues to increase. How should CIO's and IT executives deal with the layoffs? Are there alternatives to layoffs? How can IT workers cope with layoffs and its after-effects? This panel discussion will address the issue of layoffs in IT sector from two perspectives: (i) an evaluation of layoffs as an organizational strategy and how IT executives can analyze, plan and implement different cost-reduction tactics as possible alternatives to layoffs. (ii) an assessment of the financial, social and psychological impacts of layoffs on IT workers and IT organizations.

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "THE FAILURE OF RISK MANAGEMENT: WHY IT'S BROKEN AND HOW TO FIX IT"
Presented by: Doug Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research
Panelists: Stephen C. Williams, FCAS, MAAA, Associate Dir. & Actuary, Aon Global Risk Consulting
Sharon DeWitt, Former Sr. Dir. Acquisition Integration, Zebra Technologies
Jack Theisel, CIO, Moraine Valley Community College
Joy Davidson, Director, Defense and Security Division, Motorola
Discussion: What is your organization's biggest risk? Customer data lost to hackers? A
hurricane hitting a major service center? The failure of a major software implementation? Chances are, the biggest risk you have is that your risk analysis - and therefore your risk management - doesn't really work. Popular risk analysis and risk management methods used throughout business and government are unscientific, are known to have fundamental flaws, and do not improve decision making. Douglas Hubbard, inventor of Applied In formation Economics and author of the #1 bestseller in business math, How to Measure Anything: Finding the Value of "Intangibles" in Business (John Wiley & Sons, 2007), will present a sneak preview on the topic of his next
book The Failure of Risk Management: Why It's Broken and How to Fix It (John Wiley & Sons, 2009). He will review the critical flaws in the risk management methods that are quickly becoming standardized, especially in IT.
