OPENING KEYNOTE – “THE GROWING IMPACT OF BIG DATA ANALYTICS”
Presented by: Paul Zikopoulos, Director, WW Technical Professionals, IBM
Discussion: With the emergence of big data and the decreasing cost of storage and processing, organizations are seeing analytics playing an ever-increasing role in their businesses. This increased focus on analytics creates a demand for implementing solutions more quickly, with decreased costs and a shorter time to value.
In this presentation you’ll see examples of how analytic technologies, like IBM’s Ready for Watson, can be applied to solutions ranging from identifying customer sentiment to healthcare to disaster relief. |

“HOW TO DEPLOY A SUCCESSFUL HELPDESK STRATEGY”
Presented by: Elizabeth Austin, VP – IT Application Services, Family Dollar Stores

Tom Melvin, SVP, IT ADS Services Manager, BB&T
Karen Sell, Sr. Director, Customer Care, Family Dollar Stores

Discussion:Your mandate is clear: Set up an effective and successful help desk from the ground up. You double-check your priority tasks list and see that most of the physical preparations are taken care of: acoustic-controlled workstations, ergonomic chairs, hands-free wireless headsets all in place; the help desk application expertly configured. If this was all that's needed to ensure high productivity levels, you'd be all set. But then there's the hard part: the human factor. |

Interactive Workshop -“PERCEPTIONS AND DIRECTIONS IN CLOUD COMPUTING: TECHNOLOGY ADVANCEMENTS ARE STEADILY ADDRESSING YESTERDAY’S BARRIERS TO ENTRY FOR CLOUD COMPUTING”
Facilitated by: Steve Bulmer, CTO, StraTech
David Lando, Senior Solutions Consultant, StraTech
Discussion: Cloud Computing is presenting opportunities for many businesses to optimize key services, improve agility, decrease time to market and focus internal resources on strategic business initiatives. However, there have been many real and perceived barriers to adopting cloud technologies from security and manageability to availability and resilience to outright business model support. Advancements in both the development and integration of cloud and ancillary technologies continue to open the gates to broader cloud adoption by directly addressing concerns that were quite real only a year or so ago.
StraTech presents some of the key technology improvements in security, storage and data protection that allow companies to deploy or use cloud technologies that are secure, compliant and resilient. StraTech subject matter experts will facilitate a group discussion, including polling of the CIO Forum audience around the current state of adoption and perceptions of cloud computing today. They will compare polling results from the CIO Forum audience to other industry research and use these to illustrate advancements in cloud computing. They will present developments, best practices and case studies to help attendees better understand directions in and use of cloud computing technologies. |

“STRATEGIC SOLUTIONS COMPARISON: COMPARING CURRENT CLOUD-BASED DATA PROTECTION AND DISASTER RECOVERY SERVICES WITH TRADITIONAL STRATEGIES”
Moderated by: Aaron Dawson, Managed Services, Varrow
Panelists: Jason Nash, Data Center Solutions Principle, Varrow
Michael Seymour, VP of IT, Pike Energy Solutions
Discussion: Increasing cost and complexity of managing large data protection infrastructures through the combination of enterprise backup and data replication technologies have become increasingly expensive and complex to manage, maintain, and test. The latest cloud-based backup, replication and disaster recovery as a service options in the market place provide an alternative to traditional strategies. Since not all organizations and infrastructures are created equal, one solution certainly does not fit in every scenario. This goal of this interactive session will be to compare and contrast these two approaches and collaborate on when it makes sense to adopt either. |

“BUILDING AN ENTERPRISE-WIDE DATA MANAGEMENT STRATEGY: FROM CREATION TO RETENTION TO DISPOSAL”
Presented by: Peter Kohler, Business Unit Executive, IBM
Discussion: Enterprise Data Management or multiple Data Marts - a dilemma of classical proportions. Many analytics initiatives are stumbling, slowing to a crawl or simply failing because their traditional data management architecture can’t keep up. This session will discuss how IBM’s smart consolidation strategy can help: 1) Consolidate and govern enterprise data, 2) Optimize workloads for performance and SLAs, 3) Simplify the delivery of analytics by leveraging appliances, and 4) Flexibly extend analytic capability as needed. The basis for smart consolidation is to completely optimize your analytics architecture by placing the right workload against the right data, in the right place, at the right cost and the right performance level. |
