Presented by: Ed Sammis, VP, Business Integration, Office of the CIO, IBM Initiatives
Discussion: The voice of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is being heard in new ways -- as CIOs are increasingly recognized as full-fledged members of the senior executive team. Successful CIOs are much more actively engaged in setting strategy, enabling flexibility and change, and solving business problems, not just IT problems. You may be asking yourself, how can I as the CIO, make the biggest impact on behalf of the entire organization? To answer that question, IBM listened to over 2,500 CIOs worldwide. Ed will share with you the results of these face-to-face conversations, along with IBM's statistical and financial analyses which clearly define the changing demands on CIOs worldwide!

“REALIZE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF YOUR VIRTUALIZATION STRATEGIES THROUGH CONVERGENCE”
Moderated by: Steve Bulmer, CTO, Consonus Technologies
Panelist: Ben Weiner, Director, Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering, TIAA-CREF
Discussion: Many IT organizations have completed the first wave of virtualization in their environments. Initially, the targets of these endeavors were costs surrounding asset utilization and infrastructure management. ROI predictions looked strong. However, most organizations have not yet realized the expected benefits originally promised by virtualization. In fact, many virtualization investments are proving to be less flexible, unmanageable, inefficient and more costly. In this session we will discuss how an organization can maximize the potential of their virtualization investments and progress to the next level of virtualization targets: Tier 1 applications, disaster recovery automation, improved manageability and the development of private cloud infrastructures. By analyzing manual processes together with technology silos and converging IT resources, significant virtualization benefits are achievable.

LUNCHEON KEYNOTE - "PULSE: THE INTERNET AS THE ULTIMATE MEASUREMENT INSTRUMENT FOR BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT"
Presented by: Douglas W. Hubbard, President, Hubbard Decision Research
Discussion: In this session, Doug Hubbard, author of How to Measure Anything and The Failure of Risk Management will present his latest research into a new way to use the internet. As more people use Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, eBay and Amazon, it is become more feasible to use the “tracks” they leave behind as an important source of business intelligence. Reports on the frequency of particular searches on Google can be used to determine if unemployment is decreasing or even to determine where flu outbreaks occur first. Ranks of books on Amazon can be analyzed to determine whether housing is recovering or if more people are going into their own business. New methods for searching blogs and twitter can give you the “buzz” on your company. The internet has become the most powerful socio-economic measurement tool in history – and is yet vastly underutilized for this purpose. Find out what’s next for this new way of analyzing trends in business, government, and popular culture.

"A SMARTER APPROACH TO ARCHIVING"
Moderated by: Eric Naiburg, Program Director, IBM
Panelists: Laurence Leong, Program Director, Compliance, IBM Enterprise Content Management, IBM Software Group
Discussion: We continue in the midst of an Information Explosion. The amount of information captured is growing rapidly as evidenced by IDC estimates that 45GBs of data currently exists for each person on the planet with a staggering growth rate of 60% annually. Not only do we capture this information, but we are mandated to retain it and must be able to easily search and decipher the information all while reducing costs, not hindering the performance of existing applications and protecting the privacy of the information at the same time. This tremendous growth is forcing organizations to take a smart approach to managing the information across the organization, with flexible archival deployment options - on premise, appliance, cloud or hybrid. It starts with classification and archiving the information, making it accessible. In this session, you will learn strategies for managing the information explosion including archiving, storage and best practices which can be part of a greater information governance process. Some of the topics will include:
- How do I even identify what information should be archived?
- How do I manage information over its lifespan and how do I make archive management and infrastructure choices?
- How do I deliver Information Governance in a consistent, defensible and cost effective manner?
