Jeffrey W. Stovall is the City's first Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for the overall business planning of all technology systems relative to the City's strategic goals. As head of this newly created division of the City Manager's Office, Mr. Stovall oversees the formulation and evaluation of long- and short-term initiatives for e-Business, IT portfolio management, information security, business process improvement, technology project management and strategic planning, as well as the application of new technologies to solve business problems.

Mr. Stovall joined the City of Charlotte in May 2008 from Sprint Nextel, where he was director of IT merger integration planning. He was responsible for leading multiple post-merger integrations by creating IT integration strategies, combining corporate IT functions and systems, and implementing operational changes to reduce redundancies. Prior to being named to the merger integration post, Mr. Stovall served as director of transformation program management and director of network systems evolution. He started his career as a project engineer for DuPont working on the planning, engineering and construction of large industrial projects while located in Wilmington, North Carolina, and Richmond, Virginia.

Mr. Stovall is a member of the Society for Information Management, the Metropolitan Information Exchange, the IT Senior Management Forum, the Project Management Institute and the National Black MBA Association. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management. In 2010, Mr. Stovall was named one of the 50 Most Important African Americans In Technology by eAccess Corporation.

Mr. Stovall received a master's degree in Business Administration from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, and a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Originally from Richmond, Virginia, he now lives in Charlotte with his wife, Karla and two children, Preston and Katherine.
