"MAXIMIZING BUSINESS RELEVANCE OF SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS – HOW AGILE FITS"
Presented by: Dan Malone, Senior Director for Solutions Engineering, Micro Focus
Discussion: As software project failure rates peak to the ‘highest in decades,’ it’s time to consider doing something fundamentally different in terms of the way you deliver software. Modernizing your approach with a broad scale Agile transformation can dramatically improve software project success. Industry statistics indicate that 60-70% of organizations have some Agile projects. Chances are that applies to you, but have you considered how an enterprise implementation could help you increase project success rates? Analysts encourage organizations to drive quality from the start of the software development lifecycle to streamline and reduce cost. This sounds logical, but is it really achievable?

Discussion: Enterprise IT governance is coming under increasing scrutiny as companies explore every possible option and measure to derive maximum value from their IT investments. For instance, many organizations have and others are contemplating of getting rid of their internal IT organization as the cloud computing services market matures. While such extreme and desperate measures are being likened to throwing the baby out with the bath water, low credibility of the IT function coupled with tough economic times are forcing these organizational decisions. The need to develop and sustain a high performing IT organization has never been greater before especially when information technology can be a strategic lever and enabler. A recent Accenture survey finds high performing IT departments at large organizations have helped these firms better leverage their IT capabilities during these tough economic times. The purpose of this panel discussion is to examine and understand the role of IS leadership and other factors that are critical to the development and sustenance of a high performing IT organization. The fundamental questions that will guide the discussion are:
  • What are the key characteristics of a high performing IT organization?
  • What are some challenges and critical success factors in developing and sustaining a high performing IT organization?
  • What are the characteristics of a CIO in a high performing IT organization?
